EARLY START: December Cold Allows Resorts to Open More Trails

The ski season is off to the races early this year after a very cold start to December. Even places in Southern New England have been able to open and get people on the slopes earlier than years past.

At Nashoba Valley in Massachusetts, there’s no shortage of snow thanks to the colder pattern. Snow machines have been ripping most of the month, allowing for most of the mountain to be open with plenty of base depth on the slopes.

There’s even been some natural snow in the area, to reinforce the base layer already on the ground.

Ski Ward has also benefited from the cold start, having opened for weekends in November, now is 100% open and continues to build on its base depth on the hill.

Blue Hills, a little farther south and closer to Boston, has had it’s earliest opening in years, with a few trails open this past weekend.

Although there is a warm up on the way next week, the long term pattern is expected to stay on the colder side of things going right into January. Happy skiing!
